WHAT ATTENDEES ARE SAYING

Ever want a peak behind the curtain of how a top interiors photographer gets those great shots? And learn how to do it yourself? Having taken one of Stephen Karlisch’s excellent strobe lighting workshop's, I can highly recommend the experience. Stephen and his team find beautiful locations where he demo’s how to light a variety of interiors situations, what equipment he uses and why, the technical considerations, and how you can overcome many blah lighting circumstances to make amazing images that look naturally lit.
Stephen is very generous with his knowledge and a patient teacher. After the 2 day workshop, many of the workshop participants reach out to Stephen with questions, which he readily answers.
I found the workshop well worth the investment, learned so much in 2 days, and gained a great group of interiors photographer colleagues in the process that I can bounce ideas off of going forward

At a high general level (first and foremost) - thank you! I received so many DMs from other photographers asking what this workshop was and if it was worth it and my response was "100% yes". Stephen, you are very humble in your craft and have a gift for teaching. Sometimes when someone at the top of their field gives a lecture or tries to teach it's mostly them just wanting to talk about themselves to an audience. Conversely, you can tell you have a genuine interest in helping people better themselves. Without ego. And most of all, I think you really fostered a creative and open environment for us to learn…in front of and with each other.
Kristen - from the bottom of my heart, thank you. The thought of traveling with a group of strangers for days on end was low on my list of desires as a routine-loving introvert who likes her coffee with the oat milk she buys and likes to do things on my own schedule. You managed to think ahead for so many needs (and personalities) and make the offsite location feel as much like "home" as you could….down to the snack options and gummy bears. My background is corporate and in one of my chief of staff roles I had to plan offsites and let me tell you it made me want to murder everyone. If you felt this way while orchestrating 1,000 pieces - you didn't show it and those details truly do matter so much.

I started shooting in 1994 and have extensive experience so I never attended a workshop until now. I got exactly what I wanted from this one. And that is learning how to apply lighting techniques to interiors which is something new to me, and spending time around Arch & Design photographers was a unique experience.

I walked away feeling confident about my knowledge and excited to practice it! Historically shooting mostly all natural light, this workshop was a game changer in thinking about light differently and how I can control it.
I have said it so many times, but I am just really beyond grateful to a) have connected with Stephen, whose work I have admired from afar for a long time—I learned SO much in a short time. And b) have connected and built friendships with other interior photographers for the first time. Thank you again for all the work you’ve put into this—and for being willing to share your knowledge!

The flow of the schedule was great! Loved the powder room demo and seeing how SK quickly incorporates portraits. Capture Pilot was awesome for learning and taking notes on the screenshots. Love the notebook and pen - thank you for doing that! Also, an unexpected big part of this workshop for me was feeling like I'm part of a community with everyone there now. I really appreciate all that you did to facilitate that, from having WhatsApp going ahead of the workshop, zoom meeting, recommending hotels (I'm so glad a lot of us were staying together, which gave more opportunities to spend time with them), having a soft start each day to allow for some chatting, lunch/dinners, FB group, etc. It might not always be possible but I was glad a lot of us could have dinner the night before the workshop (and it was very kind of y'all to join too when you were busy getting everything ready). Thank you so much for all that you did for us. I would LOVE to attend a yearly gathering with workshop attendees, sign me up!!

Several things stood out for me, apart from the instruction, including the creation of the What's App group, and responsiveness to questions asked, the itinerary, the suggestion for hotels, the snacks, lunches, and accommodation of diet restrictions, along with the notebook, all felt personalized with a high level of attention to detail. Outstanding work! I really appreciated Stephen's willingness to answer questions and patience when at times they deviated from the topic at hand. Brian was also very helpful.

Everything was lovely, the food was great, and the personal interaction with Stephen was wonderful. Thank you for pulling together this second workshop! I'm thankful that it came at the beginning of the year as I'm really working to up my interiors game. (Also... I actually feel like I got a bonus by having a roommate at the airbnb. My partner was lovely and we had time together to talk about concepts and work through some of our questions. I doubt that everyone would be up to share a space with a stranger, but for me...this time...it was such a treat!!!)
