The number one question interior photographers ASK ME
is HOW TO CONTROL lighting
They want more control over their images, and to spend less time in Photoshop with awful color casts, windows, dark rooms, colorful rooms with impossible color control. Mastering light is the first step in taking control of your style, and attracting the types of clients you deserve.
The creative time in photography should be spent on location making your images in camera, not on the computer.
Learn how to effectively use strobe lighting for interior photography
Who is this intro strobe workshop for?
This workshop is for the new interior photographer, or someone transitioning into interiors that wants to learn the basics of camera setup, controlling the ambient light, and incorporating strobe lighting to help with certain shots.
You are a natural light only interiors photographer struggling with color cast and quality of light in some of the rooms you shoot in full day.
You have a strobe but struggle to make it look good, or natural, and are confused about when and where and how to use it.
You might be a real estate photographer moving towards shooting for designers, or a portrait/wedding photographer seeking a new stream of business and clients.
This is for working professional/semi professional photographers, not beginner, but some of the concepts will be starting off with some basics moving into some more complex lighting scenarios.
This workshop is intended to help you get comfortable controlling light in a room, and being able to work through photographing it confidently and quickly.
You will learn how to be able to spend less time in photoshop and more time getting it right in camera on location. No complex multi-layered images and masking.
By the end of the two day workshop you will be able to master everything from creating beautiful soft light to hard light any time you need it, in any location. You will be able to attend future advanced lighting workshops after attending this one.
April 13 & 14, 2023 dallas, Texas

In this hands-on, two-day intro workshop, you will learn how to effectively use strobe lighting for interior photography:
Quick and easy solutions for tricky lighting situations
Light your way out of a room with no natural light
Create a repeatable setup that will work on all your photos to provide a consistent look in all your shots
Get better color and contrast quickly and easily without having to be a photoshop guru
Speed up your editing time
Learn when and where to use strobe, how it can help you and when to just say no to strobes
See how to use strobe to mimic natural light and overpower it when the natural light isn’t working for a shot
Take control of the ambient light and create a unique style of lighting that will make you stand out in a sea of ambient-only photographers
This is NOT a real estate lighting workshop, we will explore the ART of interior photography and how to make the lighting tell a story and create a mood that you can control, and repeat in any situation.
Day One: Getting Started with the process of shooting interiors and lighting basics
Stephen will begin the day with an overview of what a typical interior photographer kit consists of, basic camera gear overview, and best practices to consider when shooting interiors.
Learn which strobe is best for you, and your style of shooting interiors. Complete strobe breakdown of the pros and cons of each type of head, what power range is needed, and which accessories you need to complete a working kit. No more guessing if you need something and spend money on gear you never use.
A full suite of lighting tools will be available to play with and learn from. Create your dream kit and understand what makes each tool valuable to a shoot. Profoto lighting and modifiers will be our main tools, or bring your own.
Observe and follow along as Stephen sets up and walks you through setup and shooting of 3-4 key areas of the home, illustrating available light techniques(controlling the ambient) through several strobe solutions. You will learn how to decide when to use strobe and why, and how to get repeatable results in any situation.
Day Two: Group shooting, one-on-one’s and a little photoshop
Breakout into groups to shoot pre-lit rooms, with guidance from Stephen. Taking cues from the shots the day before, you will begin to work the light into the look that works for you. Everyone has a unique style, and Stephen will push you to find the look that works for you. You might be light and bright, or dark and moody, and this is the time to craft the kit you will need to create those looks for your clients.
The day will end on a photoshop run through of some of the shots from the class, and how Stephen works his files. This is not an advanced Photoshop course, but will teach you the basics of blending in multiple lighting layers and how to handle some tricky situations(window blooming, reflections on surfaces, extreme color casts, etc).
You will quickly learn that the creative time of an interior shoot is best spent making the images right in-camera versus waiting to fix in the computer. With the right lighting you should be able to get the look you want with one to two frames, avoiding the headache of photoshop.
Lunch included both days.
