If you have struggled on an interior shoot with the lighting, or been stuck in a situation you just can’t control or get the look you want out of, then you need to incorporate using strobes. Using strobes will empower you to take control of difficult shots, and create shots you didn’t even realize by making your own light.
This 3 day workshop is designed as an intimate group learning experience, allowing each student to benefit from group training while also having the opportunity for one-on-one specific coaching with Stephen Karlisch to teach you how to get the look you want out of your lighting.
Quick and easy solutions for tricky lighting situations
Light your way out of a room with no natural light
Create a repeatable setup that will work on all your photos to provide a consistent look in all your shots
Get better color and contrast quickly and easily without having to be a photoshop guru
Speed up your editing time
Learn when and where to use strobe, how it can help you and when to just say no to strobes
See how to use strobe to mimic natural light and overpower it when the natural light isn’t working for a shot
Take control of the ambient light and create a unique style of lighting that will make you stand out in a sea of ambient-only photographers
This is NOT a real estate lighting workshop. This workshop explores the art and style of interior photography.
This workshop is intended to help you get comfortable controlling light in any room and be able to work through photographing the space confidently and efficiently.
This workshop is for any photographer shooting interiors or is planning on incorporating interiors into their resume.
We will go from the basics of understanding ambient light and what a strobe is and can do, to some complex lighting situations and conditions to help you craft the look you want.
For the ambient only photographers who struggle with color casts, and hours of retouching, this course will speed up your workflow considerably, and get you through some tough rooms with poor lighting conditions.
You will learn how to spend less time in photoshop fixing bad lighting, and get it right in camera on one or two layers max. No complex multi-layered images and difficult time consuming masking on shots.
If you are a real estate, or even portrait/wedding photographer, this will give you new skills to improve or add a new stream of revenue to your service offerings no matter what your genre of photography is.
You may have a strobe kit already but struggle to make it look natural, good, non-flash(y), and are just confused about how and when to use strobe. This workshop will make you love that flash.
If you desire to know the most valuable information about when and how to best use strobe, to be connected to other friendly photographers in an open yet private trustworthy community while having fun, then this is a great fit for you.
By joining our in person workshop you will be added to an exclusive private Facebook growing community that have attended our in person workshops.

Ever want a peak behind the curtain of how a top interiors photographer gets those great shots? And learn how to do it yourself? Having taken one of Stephen Karlisch’s excellent strobe lighting workshop's, I can highly recommend the experience. Stephen and his team find beautiful locations where he demo’s how to light a variety of interiors situations, what equipment he uses and why, the technical considerations, and how you can overcome many blah lighting circumstances to make amazing images that look naturally lit.
Stephen is very generous with his knowledge and a patient teacher. After the 2 day workshop, many of the workshop participants reach out to Stephen with questions, which he readily answers.
I found the workshop well worth the investment, learned so much in 2 days, and gained a great group of interiors photographer colleagues in the process that I can bounce ideas off of going forward.

As someone who is just learning to light and shoot interiors, I felt somewhat intimidated when I signed up for this workshop. I thought I might feel out of place or unwelcome. But my experience was the exact opposite. Stephen is a patient teacher who is kind and supportive and who generously shares his wealth of knowledge. The workshop was well-organized and thoughtfully executed. Stephen and Kristen go above and beyond to make sure everyone gets what they need, down to their specific dietary requirements. I’m so grateful for this workshop, for everything I learned, and for the community Stephen has cultivated. This workshop far exceeded my expectations and was well worth the cost!
I think it's very obvious how much you care about your students and the community you have created. It's so nice and I am so grateful to be a part of it! Thank you for everything! XOXO

I started shooting in 1994 and have extensive experience so I never attended a workshop until now. I got exactly what I wanted from this one. And that is learning how to apply lighting techniques to interiors which is something new to me, and spending time around Arch & Design photographers was a unique experience.

The Get Lit workshop by the Karlisch Crew far exceeded my expectations! Stephen is a wealth of knowledge and you could feel that he genuinely wanted to share it with all the attendees that were present. The workshop had a great flow to it and there was plenty of opportunity to watch and learn from Stephen as well as practically apply what we learned on-site with hand-on support and realtime feedback from Stephen. I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone that is interested in shooting spaces with strobes whether you are a complete rookie or a seasoned veteran.

Overall, I think it was really well organized and very informative. I learned a great deal about not only lighting, but also gear, general shooting techniques, process, etc. Also getting to meet and learn from other talented/welcoming/fun photographers was such a nice added bonus.

The workshop was well done and very helpful. Enjoyed being with these talented photographers from all over. Everyone was generous with their skills and knowledge. Thank you both for your time and effort. Really enjoyed it!

The flow of the schedule was great! Loved the powder room demo and seeing how SK quickly incorporates portraits. Capture Pilot was awesome for learning and taking notes on the screenshots. Also, an unexpected big part of this workshop for me was feeling like I'm part of a community with everyone there now. I really appreciate all that you did to facilitate that, from having WhatsApp going ahead of the workshop, zoom meeting, recommending hotels (I'm so glad a lot of us were staying together, which gave more opportunities to spend time with them), having a soft start each day to allow for some chatting, lunch/dinners, FB group, etc. It might not always be possible but I was glad a lot of us could have dinner the night before the workshop (and it was very kind of y'all to join too when you were busy getting everything ready). Thank you so much for all that you did for us. I would LOVE to attend a yearly gathering with workshop attendees!
★★★★★
My goal for the workshop was two-fold: I wanted to learn how to get faster and more efficient with my current lighting set-ups (potentially lightening the gear load). Secondly, I wanted to gain the confidence to hit my shot count while being able to creatively explore lighting options during a shoot. I simply want my shoots in 2024 to be fun again! That said, I couldn’t be happier with how my last shoots went post workshop... Even during torrential rain I had lighting options to play with. All of my clients were thrilled with the work; I was even OVER shot count. And I have switched out some gear that now brings me such joy to work with. More importantly, I made connections with other fellow photographers whom I have admired from afar. We connect almost daily and share our trials and triumphs together. It’s so lovely to not be in a creative vacuum — even better to know there are a collection of creatives who are rooting for you. Stephen has created a wonderful community and through taking this workshop, seemingly gifted me creative freedom to craft my work — and how I want it to look — moving forward.

At a high general level (first and foremost) - thank you! I received so many DMs from other photographers asking what this workshop was and if it was worth it and my response was "100% yes". Stephen, you are very humble in your craft and have a gift for teaching. Sometimes when someone at the top of their field gives a lecture or tries to teach it's mostly them just wanting to talk about themselves to an audience. Conversely, you can tell you have a genuine interest in helping people better themselves. Without ego. And most of all, I think you really fostered a creative and open environment for us to learn…in front of and with each other.
Kristen - from the bottom of my heart, thank you. The thought of traveling with a group of strangers for days on end was low on my list of desires as a routine-loving introvert who likes her coffee with the oat milk she buys and likes to do things on my own schedule. You managed to think ahead for so many needs (and personalities) and make the offsite location feel as much like "home" as you could….down to the snack options and gummy bears. My background is corporate and in one of my chief of staff roles I had to plan offsites and let me tell you it made me want to murder everyone. If you felt this way while orchestrating 1,000 pieces - you didn't show it and those details truly do matter so much.

I walked away feeling confident about my knowledge and excited to practice it! Historically shooting mostly all natural light, this workshop was a game changer in thinking about light differently and how I can control it.
I have said it so many times, but I am just really beyond grateful to a) have connected with Stephen, whose work I have admired from afar for a long time—I learned SO much in a short time. And b) have connected and built friendships with other interior photographers for the first time. Thank you again for all the work you’ve put into this—and for being willing to share your knowledge!

I definitely feel more confident incorporating strobes. I think through experimentation I can create a workflow I'm happy with. I really enjoyed the seminar and I'm excited to incorporate the techniques I learned in my future work. It was great, thank you for offering it.

Content was great and food too. Thank you for answering all my questions. I have always being that annoying student that wants to know everything. You were so patient and open. We need more Karlischs in the world!

If you are interested in learning about lighting and how to use strobes to take your images to the next level, you need to sign up for Stephen's workshop as fast as possible. It is so hard to find quality education in this industry, and Stephen sorts through all of that information for you. He shows you all of his techniques and tells you exactly what you need to do to use lighting successfully. I only wish I had taken this workshop sooner!

Several things stood out for me, apart from the instruction, including the creation of the What's App group, and responsiveness to questions asked, the itinerary, the suggestion for hotels, the snacks, lunches, and accommodation of diet restrictions, along with the notebook, all felt personalized with a high level of attention to detail. Outstanding work! I really appreciated Stephen's willingness to answer questions and patience when at times they deviated from the topic at hand.
Our workshops began in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as this is where we are based. It is a convenient city to get to from most parts of the US. 2024 will bring more travel options as demand has increased. Our first host was in Maine and second in Toronto, Canada. We welcome you to consider being a host in your part of the country.
If you are interested in us coming to your part of the world, check out our section below on how to become a local workshop host.
Otherwise please join our waitlist or email us for future announcements.
Currently our workshop are three day intensives. Days are typically 9-4:45 except the third day which ends a little earlier allowing participants to fly out that day if desired.
Each workshop is different depending on the location. Most are 10-12 spots. We recommend enrolling as soon as we open enrollment. Join our waitlist to be notified.
Yes, lunch is included in your fee and provided each day of the workshop. We make sure to offer lunch options that accommodate all diets.
Optional dinners as a group are always encouraged during the workshop. Most of our participants are still in touch with one another or through our private facebook group.
Our 3 day workshop ranges $3000-$3500 depending on the location. Dallas is usually the least cost due to less expenses with us not having to incur travel, higher rental and location fees.
Due to limited availability and demand, this event is non-refundable. If we are able to replace your spot then we will refund less the credit card fees incurred.
We cannot apply payment toward future workshops. Please do not purchase unless you are certain you can attend the workshop
This workshop is more than just a lighting workshop, it has brought photographers together to learn new skills and empower one another as a community from all over the world. Since announcing our in person workshops, we consistently get requests to host in different regions of the country as well as outside of the US.
If you would like Stephen to come to your city or country then we invite you to consider becoming a workshop host. If you think you have enough photographer friends for this one of a kind interior photography lighting workshop experience then this is definitely something to consider.
A workshop host is required to help find the location(s). We seek locations with styled interior design, large main areas with decent ceiling height (kitchen, living, dining) with comfortable seating for up to 10-13 participants depending on the level of the workshop. Other rooms we look for are a small space such as a bathroom, study and large bedroom or primary bathroom. A bathroom for us to use during the shoot, an area for snacks, coffee/tea and areas to eat lunch in are required. Examples of locations have been designer homes, their clients homes, finished out model/builder homes, realtor homes and some AirBnb/VRBO or Peerspace if the level of design is right for our workshop. If it is an AirBnb then Stephen and his team will be staying overnight in location.
Although we have a waiting list that we announce to first before opening to the public, we expect the local host to help gather/recruit a minimum of 10 photographer’s that are interested as our goal will be 12 depending on the space/location.
In exchange for being the local host to help make this happen, your seat will be complimentary.
The local host will need to help source the restaurants for two dinners and send us a selection of restaurants to order from that deliver the included daily lunch based on what we are looking for with location and menu choices.
We will need help with finding the recommended host hotel and or Airbnb options near the workshop location. Participants usually share transportation and we have found they like staying in the same hotels. We try to get a group discount if enough stay in the same place.
